You’ve heard of feng shui, and indeed you may well be feng shuing your living room right now, but for those in the know, vastu shastra is the real energy creating art to follow. Not for everyone, we admit, but worth a little delve if you’re a fan of accentuating positive energy in your home.
In ancient India, people believed the house was a living organism and treated constructing a house as a sacred ceremony, naming the spirit dwelling in the house as Vastu Purusha. In vastu shastra, different directions belong to different Indian Gods that sare responsible for the energies in that particular area of the house.
For example, God supervises Eshan or the North-East direction and is a great place for contemplation; Agni (the Fire element) governs the South-East direction and is the best place for a kitchen. This means that if various sections and activities related to each section of a house, or an office follow the principles of vastu shastra then, it harnesses the power of nature effortlessly and achieving goals becomes easy, spontaneous and effortless…or so the theory goes.
Many rules of vastu shastra are simple common sense as they relate to ventilation and the amount and quality of sunlight a building receives. But some principles of vastu shastra relate to the earth’s energy and subtle energy fields in natural and constructed environments. We spend most of our time inside a building be it our home, office or anything else. It’s a fact that all things in the universe have a level of energy associated with them. So, if you make the connection between the two, it’s fair to assume that all buildings and even the land on which a building is constructed has vibrations of energy associated with it.
So as we are constantly bombarded with energies 24×7 (with some energies that are positive – with pleasing effects) while others are negative – having terrible effects on us), vastu shastra aims to eliminate negative and enhance positive energy present in your home so that you, your family or business can become healthy and prosperous.
