When you flick through the pages of a magazine and see the gorgeous homes featured, it makes us dream of how we can make our homes look just as good. But what tips and tricks can we take from the stylists to make our homes look perfect? Style at Home magazine’s Homes Editor Laurie Davidson gave us a tips and tricks on a recent shoot that we can use in our homes.
Declutter, declutter, declutter!
Keep your home clutter-free. Make sure you have good storage so those everyday items you need can be cleared away easily to keep your space tidy. Pretty storage boxes that can be stored under beds or sofas or on top of cupboards are ideal.
On shelves or mantelpieces arrange your favourite accessories in different heights to add interest. Try propping up framed prints with candles or decorative accessories to tie a look together.
Make your room work together by being clever with colour. Choose an accent colour from curtains, cushions or your favourite bedding set and pick out accessories in complementary shades. Remember a contrasting colour can add a hit of colour to a room, why not try grey with yellow or turquoise with pink.
Soften the look
Break up an expanse of kitchen units or add colour to a plain bathroom scheme with texture and soft furnishings. Display some stylish tea towels or a bundle of towels in different shades to add interest to a kitchen or bathroom.
Style up with flowers
Flowers, herbs or branches can instantly lift a room and create a focal point in the space without being too pretty. Decorative branches and twigs can work just as well as cute posies displayed in vases or vintage-style milk bottles.
